BRAIDED MAGAZINE
A magazine and art collective for BIPOC creatives
https://braidedmag.square.site/
As people of color, artists going into the art world we risk being put into environments that don't reflect us. It can be discouraging seeing how many spaces don't have others that look like you. A space to come to no matter what field or environment you may be in, that has others that look like you with the same interest is important to stay motivated and driven to excel in any space. To have a safe space to return to as an artist is something we find very important and that's what we want to provide.
Our company not only hosts events but also has a magazine that comes out twice a year. These magazines promote the art from BIPOC artists and creators by being sold online as well as a few stores such as:

Seed Zines
A library and Workshop Geared Towards Kids K-12
Zines are an excellent way to provide inspiration and information that is engaging for all ages. Though mini-libraries are nice in concept, oftentimes I see them barely being used; as they contain books that may be large or un-engaging to younger artists.
To combat that issue, we plan to open mini zine libraries within schools and institutions around a plethora of social issues and inspirational art. We want to put these in schools that oftentimes don't get arts opportunities as a way to show that art is a plausible and real career. This can also offer inspiration and information on topics that may not be talked about within their communities or environments.
Alongside opening these libraries we will also promote the creation of zines by leaving these students with the history of this art form and creative inspiration through zine workshops hosted within schools and institutions.
Class Topic:
Zines! With a focus on BIPOC zines and creators.
This class is all about zines, what are they, where they come from, and how they got used and are used today! This class is a brief history lesson with an emphasis on POC zines and zine makers.
